“This year, we’re also organising a huge outdoors event at Maitland Park where we’ll have climbing walls, a sausage sizzle, giant board games and much more, which will be open to everyone. “So, we often facilitate the children’s activities. “Maitland City Council is a big supporter, thanks to the Vibrant Cities sponsorship. “Our local involvement includes events such as the Taste and Aroma festivals, Anzac Day, Hunter Valley Steamfest, New Year’s Eve and Australia Day,” she explained. “That’s why we’re looking forward to catching up with a lot of former Guides and leaders.”ĭistrict manager Jill Norburn said the movement also played a major role within the Maitland region. “But, once they go out into the workforce, they realise what they’ve learned – and how valuable an experience it was. “They absorb so much at Guides (from leadership to decision-making) and, sometimes, aren’t aware of it, probably because they’re having fun. “It’s been a wonderful group for young girls to be in… and still is.
